After spending the last couple weeks in California, it was good to come back home to the sunny northwest and hit the trails at Stevens Pass Bike Park. A lot has changed since I was up in July, both trails are now fully top to bottom with tons of features jam packed into them.
I met up with Dennis to spend the early afternoon lapping the bike park. It was good to have a riding buddy at Stevens since I had only been riding alone this summer.
Now that the trails are noticeably longer, it’s definitely full runs of fun. I found that the Rock Crusher lower section is full of berms and table tops plus a couple new bridges along the way. The conditions are a lot drier, looser dirt than the last time. Even with the warm temps on the mountain, it wasn’t too hot while riding but I made sure to leave a water bottle at the bottom for each lap.
The downside of the day was getting the flat tire on the last run. I noticed the flat right after the first couple turns at the top of the chair so I hiked the bike up and rode the chairlift down for the day. My rear tire has been prone to flats this summer, any rock or bump and it can’t handle it. Counting down the days till I can get a legit downhill bike.
On a happy note, the flat made sure it was beer o’clock time at Stevens. We headed up to the deck to enjoy a couple rounds of beer to celebrate the belated birthday.
