When it comes time to snowboard in Steamboat Springs its an easy 5 minute walking commute to the mountain so needless to say when my mountain opens…I’m ecstatic! I love riding other mountains but it’s also fun to have a mountain outside your backdoor and you can always find friends on the mountain ready to shred together.
Today was Opening Day here in Steamboat Springs, CO so my morning was spent working the festivities before I could hit the slopes. The snow coverage was great for Opening Day and it was great to see such an improvement for our terrain park on opening day.
I met up with Philip and Gags for the 10am shredfest on the mountain

The conditions today were great in some places and the runs were awesome having a lot more to choose from than last year but it was also snowball death cookies in spots. Surprisingly I didn’t get much chatter through my board riding over them so I was stoked.

Our lower mountain terrain park had 12 features on opening day and I was able to hit 3 features with no problem. I’m shooting for 5 features by this weekend! Steamboat obviously isn’t known for its terrain parks, we’re known for trees and powder so being able to get a great park on opening day is a great step!

This year Steamboat hired Nick Roma to be our terrain park manager and I’ve been working with him at work so today I made him by my model in this photo. Here’s him showing his skills for all the skier kids.

Philip found some fluffy powder on the sides of runs if you were willing to go up high for it.

I wasn’t able to spend much of today riding since I was busy with work (Opening Day) but needless to say I was stoked to be back on the snow in Steamboat! This weekend I’ll be getting some last minute summit county riding in before switching full steam to Steamboat riding.

Martin, yeah resort town living. Anywhere in town is 5 minutes drive, my walk is easy to the mountain.
