Last week I was riding in a t-shirt and light hoodie enjoying slushy snow and sunshine. This week, the storm rolled through Colorado and continued to cover up the brown spots and eventually make some good powder days. I waited till today to finally hit the slopes, with enough snow to be a powder day. It was well worth the wait, 13 inches at the top of the mountain.
Here’s today’s mini-video from riding, took out the vholdr cam to capture everything.
I was up early and made sure the day before to use a powder clause for this morning…basically I’d come into work around 11am and do a late day in order to get first turns on the mountain. That’s the best perk of living in a resort town is having the appreciation for powder by your employer.
I picked up Amy and ended up dropping her off at the mountain when I realized I forgot my boots at home…oops! Got them and still had time to be early at the gondola. In the line just ahead of us was our friend Sara so we hung out waiting for the gondola to be loaded.

We headed to Storm Peak where we got a good spot in line just 3 rows behind the first chair. Waited around for opening and were in the first 15 chairs loaded. It continued to dump snow while waiting in line.

With 13 inches of new snow in the last 24 hours, just on top and plenty of snow the last couple days…it was good, light and fluffy good.
On the first run, Sara and I had a nice collision as we both came around a tree at the same time luckily just laughed it off and kept riding. I got it on camera, quite funny to watch. We rode down and got first tracks down Storm, ducking in and out of the trees.

We just kept lapping Storm and Pony, finding the powder turns and goods. Here’s Amy with her powder trail coming down the run

Sara had to take off and we met up with Steve also out on his morning ride break.

Steve found a lot of terrain to jump off of and made use of it

The morning was very good, I got called to head in for work so I called it a day and was stoked I woke up early for these goods with my friends.

Sorry Big! We were in the lift line saying this is why we live here…total locals day for those willing to get up early.

March 27, 2009 at 8:09 pmMan I need to experience that Colorado Dry powder. It snowed 12 inches the other day at stevens and I got to my car and there was no snow on it. It was that wet of snow 🙁 Nothing like 32 degree slush/ice fest

June 19, 2009 at 8:11 pm[…] March 26, 2009 (Steamboat): I have a great crew of women riders in Steamboat (Amy, Stacia, Sara). This day was Amy, myself and Sara for the first couple laps and it was well worth it, powder and girls charging together getting fresh tracks down Storm Peak. […]
