So around this time of year I start to go through my closet and see what’s left that I won’t be using for the year ahead. Then it comes to the choice of what to do with old gear…and it’s tough. Luckily here in Steamboat I have the Snowboard Outreach Society (SOS) and I pack up a box to drop off at my friend Amy’s house since she teaches for them and collects the gear for the upcoming students. This way my gear goes to snowboarding youth that normally can’t afford gear and require donations to be able to ride.
Check and see what’s in your area that offers up a way to recycle or pass on used snowboard gear.
I have two sets of boots to pass on, my old 686 pants, an old Burton jacket plus multiple beanies, dakine gloves and snowboard socks that I’ll be donating this year.

Amy and I spoke about doing a drive through the blog this year where people could send their gear to SOS. I’ll see her tomorrow so I’ll find out if we still want to do that, I think it would be great for people who have tons of gear but isn’t used. SOS is a great cause to give to and the kids I met this winter were so grateful and happy on the slopes.
